Lacerations are probably the most common type of injury treated in any plastic surgery practice. Lacerations may range from simple superficial injuries that require cleansing and tape or dermabond glue, to very complex injuries requiring specialized plastic surgery management.
Dr. Altman spent many years of his professional life as a plastic surgeon, repairing complex lacerations as part of acute care rendered to patients requiring consultation in hospital emergency rooms. Today, most of his consultations tend to come directly from existing patients or physicians. As long as the individual does not have life threatening injuries such as severe bleeding, head trauma, or problems breathing, it is perfectly fine to contact our office directly with lacerations. If in doubt, please go to the nearest emergency room, and after triaged by the hospital staff, one might then request a plastic surgery consultation.
