Scar Revisions

Scars occur from prior surgery or injuries.   Healing is often unpredictable.   Scars cannot be removed, however,  plastic surgeons  often revise scars in an attempt to improve appearance.    A consultation is usually necessary to determine whether an individual is a good candidate for a scar revision.   Issues such as skin type, location, and tension on skin factor into the decision as to whether or not the procedure should be performed.

Typically, scars look their worst between 6 and 12 weeks.   During this time, the doctor might recommend different treatments such as silicone pressure strips or steroid injections to improve the appearance of a scar.  Most scars achieve a final appearance in 12 to 18 months.
